WHOA WHOA WHOA! It’s been said a thousand times already and will be undoubtably said again, “Where did this year go?”; I can’t say for sure but I def had some good ass times though. Have updated the Podcasts and Releases sections to be up to date (finally!) and have a few other odds and ends to post up today so enjoy.
I have two mixes that are a bit dated but I have been HECKKKA busy this year so you get a recycle of two great holidays mixes I have done in the past, might still pull out a last minute mix like a rabbit from my hat, but it looks doubtful…BOOOOO (yes, yes I know)!
Not a new track as this was on the ‘Free Floating Rationales’album, but the video is news to me. I LOVE THIS SONG and now it part of a Free Sixo & Leif[kolt] EP called ‘Absent Bodied’as part of Fake Four Free Fridays which is a new Free release on the FFI Bandcamp every Friday in December.
Had a chance to rock there this past Friday with the homie Esh The Monolith and it was a BLAST! These dudes are def on top of the art and gallery game: tons of great pieces from rotating artists about once a month, paint, markers and ink. In addition to that they have a small but well curated LP and CD section that I had to step away from as I would have dropped DOUGH at the spot. Check them on the interwebs or on Facebook. Word.
I’ll be doing the damn thing for my 1st DJ set in downtown Oakland since relocating! 9:30 to close; come out for good music, vibes, friendly service and draaaanks. Start your week with a BANG. For more info check the Facebooks for the invite (yes, you are invited!) HERE. If you are unfamiliar with the Legionnaire, it’s the new pub owned and operated by none other than Zack Turner, AKA Prozack Turner of Foreign Legion fame so you know they know how to get down.
Today is a special day, nope not because it’s April 20th, but because it is arecognized holiday about supporting your local music outlet. Not, make sure you buy something on iTunes to support the industry, but go to an actual physical shop and pick up a copy of something you know or a special Record Store Day item you could take a chance on. Either way, it’s just important to get out and support your local music shops as these places have been dwindling in past years as they become institutional relics from when you used to get your music advice from an actual person (usually the kid with funny hair who seemed so different from you, but always knew exactly what you wanted) rather than an algorithm based on search terms. I am not saying the system we have is not great and it’s pretty incredible that your library can follow you everywhere now with cloud and streaming services, but there is still nothing like taking time to dig through, preview, purchase a piece of music (I recommend not celebrating today’s other holiday while shopping as you can come home with bizarre choices that sounded so great in the store and once home are lack luster at best, TRUST ME) and be excited to listen to it in it’s entirety upon arriving home. Maybe music has just always been a huge part of my life and always will be, but there is something about the process of selection and the payoff of an amazing album front to back that you just can’t get from the comfort of your own home or digital terminal of choice. DSPs and brick and mortar stores are not at odds with one an other, but pieces of the same whole that both need their due. So today please give some love to you local shop, pick up something interesting and rare/exclusive, then go home download the hot jam you heard in the car on the way to the store.
You heard me right; free? Yes free! You can get up to 5 copies sent to you for just paying the shipping on them…pretty good deal right? I thought so too. For more info visit his site HERE and peep this video he did to describe the reason behind all this free music. Enjoy!
Hey Hey! Got some really great stuff for you today from the homies Ice Box and Rashaan Ahmad as well as some stuff from your’s truely…let’s get down on the get down!
ICE BOX ‘We Are All Connected’
A great new video from the Northeast super group of PT Burnem, Eyenine & Paulie Think for their lead off single from the Ice Box EP; totally DIY steeze, totally cold and totally awesome! Peep game and for more info on Ice Box check the DIY Bandits site, EP available on vinyl and digitally now.
Two really great videos from the long time homie Rashaan Ahmad from his album ‘For What You’ve Lost’ both featuring the Chicago/Boston connect of Rita J and Moe Pope. Sooo fresh, you need this in your life! Would I lie to you?
My 2008 Magnum Opus of a sonic love letter is now available on Bandcamp in any format you could think of so take a listen, download it, love and bring a box of tissues…Click the cover art above or the link HERE to check it out!
I am back and badder than than ever for the holidaze and all that good stuff…getting my cards all set to mail and what knot so it’s about time I start posting again to this corner/crux of the internet. I have a new mix for you to download and some stuff off my soundcloud as well and then I will leave you be…Savvy? OK, let’s ‘go in’ as the kids say these days…
I made this mix for a special person, as the title would indicate, but they will remain nameless…maybe it’s YOU. Either way a great mix was produced and I hope you enjoy it, feel free to post comments or your mama jokes…what? Track list!? fiiiine…This is the most rappy mix I have made in forever, so ENJOY!
New Soundcloud Heat!
Not really as it has been up for about a month or so now, but I haven’t had time to post about it until now. A remix I did for the Scale It Back remix contest held by DJ Shadow, obviously I didn’t win, but I did make a song that I am excited to play for people…peep game.
YOOOOOOOO!!! It has been a MINUTE since I got up on here, for that I apologize but life has a way of getting in the way sometimes. Have no fear though, I will be in FULL EFFECT for the up coming holiday week and sporadically more often from then on…Savvy? Great! Now that we are in agreement, I just wanted to shout out a really fun (hopefully well attended) event I will be doing tonight @ Freight Street Gallery in Waterbury. Freight Street if you have never been there before is a pretty dope spot, a bit out of the way, but very nice as they have done significant improvements to the spot since their opening a few years back. Any artists looking for a great place to play an ALL AGES show should seriously take a look at this venue.
So, tonight I will be rocking the jammie jams from 10pm until 2am for a rare ALL AGES set, so feel free to bring your annoying little brother for some earsplitting BASS. Mostly rocking Electro and Dubstep tonight, but if you’ve witness the fitness live before, you know I tend to meander genre-wise…for more info click the flyer above or the link HERE to check the FB invite. Hope to see YOU there!!!
