Feakout Friday!!! RIP Nate Dogg and More!!!

YO, YO!!!  So first a Hip-Hop Legend was lost this week with the passing of Nate Dogg the best hook man in the industry HANDS DOWN (Are you taking notes AKON???) and he will be sorely missed but not forgottena as there is sure to be a slew of ‘Unreleased’ joints and ‘Collabs’ that will inundate us to the point of nausea in the next few months.  But that is the way the industry works, ‘Ohhh Word???  Dude’s dead???  Let’s get a few bucks outta that…”  Sad really, but at least it perpetuates the memory of a great artist, so it can’t be all bad.  Also I have a new Remix from the Homie Brzowski and details of my (cue the booming god -like voice please…) DECON RECORDS BACK CATALOG CONTEST.  So let’s get down to business and oh yeah, TGIF yo…

RIP NATE DOGG…

Hip-Hop lost one of it’s shiniest stars this week with the passing of Nate Dogg; a man you could always could on for an amazing hook and great lines all day (Smoke Weeeed Everryday…).  But as such he will always be remembered through his music and the impact this godfather of the ‘G-Funk Era’ had on Hip-Hop as a whole.  This man PIONEERED the gangster ass R&B hook, no small feat there, so to that end I present to you two tributes to the aweseomnocity of the man, the myth, the LEGEND…Nate Dogg

Exhibit #1 Steve1der ‘Nate in 08’ Mix

This mix is just simply AHHHMAZING, I cannot say any more good things about it because I will be very jealous it was not me who mixed it…but GODDDAMMMM Steve1der did it HUGE with this one and not even as a post mortem tribute either, that says something about the artist for sure.  I would HIGHLY recommend a listen at least if not a DL and daily bumpage…

Exhibit #2 Warren G, You Useless, Useless Bastard

Again, I wish I was the one to have written such a hilarious and insightful diatribe on the song regulate and what it said about the to characters in the song (Warren G & Nate Dogg)…buuut all I can do is bask in the reflected glory of reposting it (reflected glory, refecccted glooorrry!!!).  Biggup to my sister Rikki for putting me on to this and the homie Sean Keane for writing a hell of a dessertation on the song ‘Regulate’…Peep game…

In my informal capacity as future analyst and hip-hop theorist, I will take the time to consider seminal efforts in the field of rap music. Before you question my credentials, let me assure “y’all” that I regularly wore a San Francisco Giants cap backwards from 1994 until the summer of 2002.

The song “Regulate,” by Warren G and Nate Dogg, tells the story of a dramatic night in the LBC. There is sex, there is violence, there is bass, there is treble. Nate Dogg cruises for skirts, guns down rival homies, and beds down triumphantly at the East Side Motel. Nate emerges the ideal G-Funk man. By contrast, Warren G tries to join a craps game, gets mugged, and is nearly killed. He comes off as completely ineffectual, dependent on Nate for protection, and trick acquisition.
