Hey Hey!  So I was away in CA for a bit and ‘off the grid’ for a while but am back and badder than ever with some great new stuff to kick your week off right…right you say?  Yes, right…not YEaaahh Riiiight.

Sheen Bros ‘It’s So Hot’ ft. Greg Nice

This week’s edition has a whole FREE (free you say…) EP courtesy of Scion A/V’s website (website you say…) from the collusion of 4th Pyramid and Cosmo Baker, called Sheen Bros.  It’s really just a bunch of remixes of the same track ‘It’s So Hot’ ft. Greg Nice (Nice and Smooth & solo fame) and mannn does it bang! In the cluuuub, streets, basement or bedroom, if this doesn’t get a head nod out of you I would suggest checking your pulse cause you might be dead.  Just kidding…wait, no I’m not.  Peep the two tracks below and if you are like me and the ‘download and figure out later’ type you can grab the whole thing HERE

Aww Snap!!!   Life has really been getting all up in my ass these days, so I better work it out huh?  Well I have been and to that effect I have a short and sweet rocker for you today with three (count them!) THREE incredible new tracks from some of the most ahhhmazing talent of 2011.  Peep game and enjoy!

NEW MUSIC

Qwazzar & Batsauce – Till it’s Done (Galapagos4)

Brand spanking new track from the Duo’s new Album ‘Bat Meets Blaine’ due out on Sept 13; a scant 4 months after the release of their first record (pictured above)…when the chemistry’s there use it.

The Metermaids – Graveyard Shift (Prod. By 9th Wonder) (Strange Famous Records)

These cats have been the HOMIES for a minute now and I can’t be happier about their success, they deserve it for real!  Their new record ‘Rooftop Shake’ comes out on Strange Famous Records Sept 6th and it’s gonna be a BANGER.  I would advise getting a preorder on this one…

Astronautalis – Dimitri Mendeleev (Fake Four Inc)

Apparently this track is BURNING up the blogs and internet; as you can tell it made it to my site…mooo whooo hahahaha!  But seriously folks, this is a solid track, and from what I can tell the whole album is gonna be ILLMATIC style dope.  Plus Andy is just a really cool guy to boot.  Check it fool!!!  His 4th LP ‘This Is Our Science’ will drop on Fake Four Inc September 13th.  COP THAT, COP THAT!

Ruff Mix Mondays!

•August 1, 2011 • Leave a Comment

Allright, Allright, Allright.  Whew!  A whole week without a post, whate whate gwan you say?  I was busy with other work endeavors sadly, but fear not I am back on the grizzly this week in full effect and have a banger of a week lined up (shockingly, I do actually plan these things in advance); so let’s get into this edition of Ruff Mix Monday and take it from there…savvy?  Word.

New Remixes!!!

These remixes are in the last few months, but I haven’t shared them yet so I threw them up on Soundcloud to see what cats thought before I went in and monkey with them any further…the monkeying will commence this week so peep them before the get ruined!!!

Infinite Livez – Lucky You (HALO Remix)

I opened up for Infinite when I was DJing in Berlin and we got to talking…he had some accs up on bandcamp, I like remixing, 2+2=4 and all was right with the world.

Storm Davis – Snuggle Bunny (HALO Remix)

I have known Storm for a while now thanks to the homies The Metermaids and he recently sent me over this acc and I tired to get as busy as I could on it.  In usual HALO fashion, I just kinda evil-ed it up a bit…super rough draft so don’t get to used to the sound.

New Morning Show Archive ft. Data Romance

As you may or may not know, I have been blessed to have a temp co-host for the last month on my WPKN Morning show (Tuesdays 6-9am: 89.5fm, WPKN.org & iTunes radio) as well as have some great interviews.  All making for really enjoyable radio vs. shabby ole me in there by myself (waack) as per the usual.  This week has a great interview with the up-and-coming electronic group of Data Romance at the end of the show in addition to great music, news, views and all that jazz you can’t hear elsewhere on the radio dial (trust me).  Click the link below to stream it off the WPKN site. A downloadable archive will be up soon!

MORNINGS ON WPKN ft. INTERVIEW W/DATA ROMANCE

Marcel The Shell…WTF?

This video series is HILARIOUS!!!  Serious, I got put on last night and can’t stop thinking about it or hearing the lines in my head, it’s that good.  I will let the first video speak for its self…

Videos

Geto Boys – Bring It On

This week’s thugg pick is an old school track that is totally without a doubt ahhhmazing, hilarious and dope all rolled into one 8 min posse cut opus with every gangster rapper from the 91-94 era ever on it (sorry MC Eight, ya didn’t make it on there).  It’s Bring It On by the Geto Boys and I’ll just let the video speak for itself…

I wake up every morning screaming ‘Somebody Slaughter Me!”

Cassettes Won’t Listen – Into The Hillside

Official video from the homie who is currently one half of The Freeze Tag and killing it on his own with the new album Kevinspacey.  This is my favorite track from his slept on instrumental only album released about two years ago.  Enjoy!

The Freeze Tag – The Hustle

Speaking of The Freeze Tag, here is the first video in the series that follows the adventures of ‘Hamster Kid’ though his adventure throughout the record titled with his namesake.  Ahhmazingly smooth visuals in this video, I am sure the series will be popping up again…

I.E. Merge – DMC World Finals Routine 2004

For all my Turntablist nerds!  This is probably the best routine I have ever seen, very clean, well paced, rhythmic, just incredible…Peep game!

A Midsummer Night’s Dream W/DJ HALO

Ohh Snap!  Fun times will be had @ Soda Bar Brooklyn on this evening!  FB Invite coming soon.  I just really like the moon and stars so I thought I would share with you…sue me.

Aiyoooo!  Whate whate gwan bredren, tis a wonderful day to be alive…no?  I have been embroiled with working the last few days so it’s the first time I have had to post this week…and maannnn is it a doozy.  We got a Recycle from the omni-present homie Adam B and his column Pop Shots, a few videos of music I cannot get out of my head (unless it with a bullet), some exciting news for my radio show listeners and much, much more!  Sit back and kick it for a while, your boss won’t be pissed you didn’t get that TPS report in on time…you are sooo money right now, no worries.

Pop Shots: Break-Ups & Breakdowns

Welcome to your weekly dose of pop world musings. Covering all things pop culture, this week Pop Shots is hitting you with thoughts on everything from R.Kelly’s bank telling him it’s over between him and his house, to J.Lo and Marc Anthony calling it quits, to Cheap Trick’s stage falling apart under inclement weather, and since it’s Pop Shots you know everything is seasoned with a little bit of attitude.  For full article visit Adam’s World Blog…

Wednesday Video Corner

Here are a few videos of songs i just cannot get out of my head these days…some new, some old, all DOPE.  Take look…

Nightmares on Wax – I Hear in Color

Really amazing track I just kinda stumbled upon in the depths of my digital library…

Charles Bradley (feat. Menahan Street Band) – Heart of Gold

The horns in this kick more ass than some type of ass kicking automaton…maybe a bit extreme, but that’s me.

2econd Class Citizen – Wishing Well

Kind of an awesome video of the man doing the damn thing on the MPD24.  Exclusively sampled from English folk records!  You like the product placement shot of his record?  Everyday I’m Hustlin’…

Nightmares on Wax – 70′s 80′s (RJD2 Remix)

Dope remix from RJ to an already dope track…basically it is me 70′s baby/80′s child so I had to throw it up (Whut Whut!) for my generation.

Mornings on WPKN: Data Romance Give Away!

Hiyoooo!!!  Another great call in contest will be going down next week on my FM radio show (Tuesdays 6-9am, WPKN 89.5fm) following the 8:30am interview with the fantastic new group Data Romance.  I will have 3-4 copies of their debut EP  to give away after the interview so have your speed dial set.  If you are unfamiliar with Data Romance, allow me to drop some knowledge on you…

Holler!

Cartoons are Hip Too…

Unless you have been living under a rock for the last 10 or so years (which if you have that’s pretty damn amazing, keep doing you homie!) you must have had contact with the line-up of the premier in cartoon hilarity for adults…ADULT SWIM.  I don’t even have TV and I know about it, and the reason being that they have done a really excellent job of knowing their market (18-35, educated, most likely smoke weed or have in the past), positioning (Time of Day block is scheduled), sponsorships (The Swim Series of albums) and having one hilarious product across the board.  Look at their show line-ups (ATHF, Sealab 2021, Venture Bros, Harvey Birdman and these are just off the top.  Remember I don’t have TV…), not a wack one in the bunch.  All episodes are either 15 min commercial free or 30min with min interruption and choc-a-bloc full of great adult humor portrayed by animation. The Simpsons really were the front runner in this so credit due, but Adult Swim has made it almost a faux pax to not be up on what’s good with new Adult Swim shows.  Where did this all come from???  I recently was introduced to the Venture Bros (have always been a ATHF fan, just check my fav scratch samples) and was really struck by how very…adult the humor in this cartoon really was.  Which is amazing to really take the idea that many comics/graphic novels have been doing in a niche sense for years and taking it big time; it is ok and even cool in fact to watch cartoons as an adult…come on in, the water is fine.  Don’t take my word for it, peep this and with that I am out.

What would be a Venture Bros post without Brock Samson…

Fake Four Friday!

Live from ??? Maine

This is how you turn a kitchen into a recording studio…

Greetings on this TGIF and all that jazz, your humble narrator is coming to you live from somewhere maine (approx 50 mi north of Portland, that’s all I know) where last night I recorded a podcast with the long time homie Brzowski in prep for his new album A Fitful Sleep, which you can cop on Milled Pavement Records on 7/26 (Cop Dat, Cop Dat!).  Thanks to the swell woman behind the counter at the Comfort Inn I am coming to you live to bring you some exciting stuff from the bredren at Fake Four Inc. Records.  Additionally, I’ll be throwing in a Kay the Aquanaut Remix I did recently and a HILAROUS video I stumbled upon thanks again to my always-hipper-than-me sister, Rikki.  Let’s kick this weekend off right by half assing our jobs for the rest of the day and being bombed by 6pm…

Fake Four Friday: Progress Trap

This is a new recurring column I will be doing to highlight what I consider to be one of the best newer (less than 5 years) indie Hip-Hop (or otherwise) labels in recent memory Fake Four Inc.  This week’s submission come from the newest album by Sole & The Skyrider Band that will drop on tuesday 7/19 (cop that, cop that!).   This track has seen a TON of love on the Strange Famous Soundcloud page (it features Sage Francis) and has been posted all over the usual promo suspects (Twitter, FB, StuffInc, YourMom.com, maybe even Google+…), but I have just been sooooo impressed with the new LP Hello Cruel World that I had to throw in my 2 cents.   Below you can listen to the stream and download for FREE, which I think is a limited time thing, so get it while the getting is good…Enjoy!

Sole ft. Bleubird and K-The-I??? – Hustle Hard (Ace Hood Remix)

Off the Nuclear Winter Vol. 2 mixtape which has been dubbed by the man Sole himself as ‘Rap as Journalism’ you have a great new track and video to boot.  All songs off the mixtape have been made into videos actually so it’s worth a look when you are on your way to buy a copy of Hello Cruel World.  You can find out more about Nuclear Winter Vol 2 #Deathpanel Unveiled at Sole’s site HERE…

Kay The Aquanaut ft. Sole – Kill You (HALO Remix)

Remix I did recently of one of my favorite tracks off Kay The Aquanaut’s new album Waterloo on Circle Into Square for the Kill You Remix Contest (still waiting on the official results…) and it came out kinda dope.  Enjoy!

Random Video Pick…

Bom, Bom, Bom, Bom…for Fieevve Hours Straaiiight.
